A month or so later, the dog in question was indeed returned to the shelter and euthanized. For some unaccountable reason, the fact that I was right did not make me feel better.
If only being right actually accumulated points, or card punches, or something you could cash in for something valuable.
Sorry you had to part with your pet, Charlie. It’s rough; they’re family. Hopefully he’ll be happy with his new peeps. Animals are more resilient than we give them credit for, sometimes.
I want ‘being right’ points. Although i wonder if you get them taken away if your wrong? I think if people got points for being right, the world would either be a better place, or just that much more of a hellhole.
It’s a sad episode, so may I offer you a happy one? I used to volunteer for the RSPCA. We took in and rehomed mostly cats, not having the facilities for dogs, but we could do little ones. One of our little ones was a miniature Dachshund from hell. This beast chewed everything it could reach, was a terror on lead, and seemed to be completely insane. She was, however, adorably cute, and was adopted three times and three times handed back to us as utterly uncontrollable. Then this really old guy who had recently lost his wife came in. He was lonely and wanted a companion. He adopted the little lunatic. We were sure she would come back. She did, about a week later. The old guy came in with the wee beast in the inside pocket of his coat.
He just wanted us to know how happy she made him.
Charlie, kudos to you for making the effort to rehome your dog. A lot of people don’t do that. They should be smacked. You should get right points.
Great story! I didn’t mean to give the impression that animal shelters are All Sad, All the Time. We did have some wonderfully uplifting And They Lived Happily Ever After adoptions like that one, and stories like those really helped us to believe we were all doing a little good in the world. But when the sad episodes happened, they could be soul-crushing.
Oh my. No, this is one of those times when it sucks to be right. Sigh.
…We just had to get rid of our dog, but we did an online thing and he got put with a nice family… poor doggy….
Also, i’ve barely been online for a couple weeks, which is why i haven’t commented on anything till now. Sorry.

I’m sure the black market and various mafia would find a way to monetize it.
This should be on the wall of every shelter.
