I loved my mother very much, but sometimes she was just baffling, especially when I was in first grade. (I have no idea why I remember this conversation so vividly.)
Thank you! I did think it was very striking and sad, seeing something like this abandoned in a vacant lot, left to the embrace of the grass. I can’t help but wonder who the bear belonged to, was it a sappy Valentine’s Day gift or a precious childhood friend, did it have a name, was it loved, was it lost or just thrown away, did someone grow up and move out, leaving it at mom and dad’s?
